LL so I know you told me you were studying law and I was curious to know what type you were studying and read on one of your comments you were studying Human Rights Laws, I hope I'm correct so I don't waste your time with this and YES I do think you can easily get yourself a great job/career anywhere you choose to practice even here in Canada and in Vancouver......I'm not sure if you know this but seeeing that you were intrested in living in Vancouver you have probably done some research on this already sooo here I goooooo.....
Anyhooo......In Canada Human Rights Law exsist at 3 differnt levels, 1)International Human rights (which I am sure you are already familiar w) 2)Canadian Constitutional 3)Provincial and Federal Human Rights Laws.....
The Canadian Constitutional.....all people living in Canada are protected by Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms commonly referred to as the Charter. The Charter forms part of the Canadian Constitution. Canadian laws and gov't cannot violate the rights listed in the charter, which means that the Federal, Provincial and Municipals gov't cannot create laws or programs that violate any of the Charter rights.......
Federal and Provincial Human RTS Laws here protect us from discrimination.....
Federal Law, the act applies to everyone who recives goods and services from business or activities regulate by federal law.
Provicial Laws...In British Columbia, the Human rts act applies to everyone who sells and recieves goods and services from businesses and activities regulated by provincila law, which include, stores, landlords, hospital, schools at all levels. It also applies to people and their unions who work for either the provincial Gov't or a private business that is regulated by the provincial gov't......
LL there is and will always be work in your area of study, it all depends on where and what you choose to do, I'm sure you already knew everything I wrote down or weather it was helpful at all, Well it was a refresher for me atleast....How much more do you have in your studies????
Thanks nummy for the info! You're right, I do study human rights law. Got another year to go. I knew about the international law and the constitutional rights levels in Canada, but I haven't really studied the federal level yet. But it sounds interesting (well, obviously I find it interesting, it's what I chose to study, lol)! We'll have to see what happens, who knows, maybe we'll be neighbours one day!
